Role

Designer & Frontend Developer

Overview

Status Quo was an independent gaming and technology podcast initially publishing episodes through SoundCloud. As the hosts prepared to expand their presence and pursue sponsorship opportunities, they needed a dedicated website to strengthen branding, discoverability and support platform stability.

At the same time, they were transitioning from SoundCloud to Spreaker as their new podcast hosting provider, which required a solution that could support multiple feeds during the migration without disrupting publishing.

My Role

I led the project handling branding, design, and development.

I designed the logo and cover art system, established the visual identity, and built the single-page website. I implemented automated episode updates, integrated third-party feeds and APIs, configured audio playback functionality, and managed hosting and deployment.

I also configured Google Analytics to track audience behavior, including playback interactions and download events, providing the hosts with listener data to support sponsorship discussions and production decisions.

Approach

I began by creating a cohesive brand system that aligned with the podcast’s tone and future sponsorship goals.

To support the hosting migration, I built a feed-driven structure that parsed RSS data into JSON and later integrated Spreaker’s API. This ensured episodes populated automatically without manual updates. Fallbacks for local hosting were also added in the event of any platform issues.

On the frontend, I used JavaScript and jQuery to render episodes and integrated MediaElement.js to provide consistent cross-browser playback functionality.

At the request of the hosts, the site was optimized for performance on mobile devices. The final version of the site was kept under 1MB total to prioritize fast loading.

Outcome

The project resulted in the podcast’s first dedicated web presence, enabling automated publishing with increased platform control.

The feed-driven structure reduced maintenance overhead while offering a cleaner more organized presentation.

The lightweight build and integrated analytics positioned the podcast for scalable growth and measurable audience interaction.
